The Spirit of Cerritos: Meet Cerritos High School's Adam George Harris

Cerritos-Artesia Patch profiles Adam George Harris, a bassoon player with the Cerritos High Wind Symphony who says performing at the London Summer Olympics is a one of a kind opportunity.

Editor's Note: Patch will be posting musician profiles and features in anticipation of the .

My name is Adam George Harris and I play the Bassoon.

I started taking music in the 4th grade. I also play percussion and clarinet. I enjoy playing because it allows me to express myself and allows me to achieve a greater knowledge in music.

Music takes a lot of dedication and I have spent a lot of time practicing. Sometimes I have to give up other interests such as art and studies.   Sometimes it's hard to find time to practice because of tests and homework. I get a lot of inspiration from listening to how other bands perform.

Since I have been dedicated to music, I have had a lot of great opportunities. I have received awards and recognitions such as marching band awards and receiving first place at Carnegie Hall. I have been able to perform at a lot of interesting places such as Carnegie Hall and at the San Francisco Music Festival.

The special part of playing in the Wind Symphony is that I am part of a bigger group. Everyone has to do their part to play the music as it should be played.  Working together with my fellow musicians makes me feel like I'm part of something bigger. Working as a team is at the top of my priority. If we didn't work as a team, we would collapse. Team work is an important quality in a music ensemble.

It is an honor to be a part of . Our hard work and dedication will allow us to achieve goals and hopefully allow us to be invited to music festivals to come. I look forward to performing at the Olympics in London because not everyone gets this kind of opportunity and we are gracious enough to be invited.

I am the Spirit of Cerritos because people like Mr. Tim Trost -- our music director -- give me opportunities to allow me to shine.

When it comes to the FREE newspaper (or anything else that's free) -- the old saying applies: YouRead More get what you pay for.

To call this "rag" a newspaper is a joke. They only put partial truths, always sided to aRead More covert friend of the writer and never have done the background investigation to be able to establish validity!
