UPDATE: Interim Football Coach Named After Cerritos HS Coach Resigns Amid "Inappropriate Contact" Allegations

Chad Reed, the head coach of Cerritos High's Varsity Football team, has stepped down amid allegations of inappropriate contact toward a player during practices.

In the wake of a student-athlete’s accusation of “inappropriate contact” during practice, head varsity football coach Chad Reed resigned Wednesday and the school has appointed assistant coach Shontae Pouncey as the interim head coach.

conducted an internal investigation, led by Dr. Susan Hixon, the administrator for high schools. She met with the player’s parents and Reed, who has taught three years with the district, according to Deputy Superintendent Dr. Mary Sieu.

The Dons, who were 3-7 last season under Reed, open the 2011 football season Friday night at Gabrielino High School in San Gabriel at 7pm on Friday, Sept. 2. Sieu confirmed the team will play under the leadership of interim head coach Pouncey -- a local who played football for Artesia High School in the early 90s.

The rest of the coaching staff will remain intact, Cerritos athletic director Robert Adams told Patch Thursday afternoon.

Sieu confirmed the charges from the parent and that according to the complaint, the player stated in an email that Reed started to scream at him during a practice drill using profanity and proceeded to throw a football "straight at my face." In a second incident, the player alleged that Reed "hit me upside the head with my back turned to him,"

“I want to make sure I protect the students as well as the staff member,” Sieu said. “We try to deal with it, investigate it and listen to both sides of the story and come to a reasonable resolution, and I think we did.”

Reed, who is a P.E. Teacher at the school, will remain teaching on the Cerritos High campus. Reed did not answer phone calls to his personal cell phone number.

CHS and ABC admin. should have admonished Coach Reed before it obviously got out of control.. Coach Reed regularly uses profanity and throws tantrums. All of this is not necessary to coach at any level. Some parents tolerate it, others don't. This parent doesn't. What are we teaching our youth when we accept any kind of behavior.

Look at Pollys football team. Bomb! And a reality show! If u wanna go big toughen up. If your not a rough person don't play football. My bro trained at cerritos in between his transfer for a better football. team. He enjoyed it there. Just wanted some real team members to actually play football. Cerritos is not known for football maybe he just wanted to push the school to make someone scouted. Kids talk way worse than that anyways.

We had a similar incident happen to our son at football practice. The coach denied any wrongdoing but was relieved of his coaching duties. It is SAD that people will tolerate any type of abuse from a coach simply because it is football!! Well, wake up people!! Abuse is wrong and should never be tolerated!! These are children for crying out loud!! Coaches, you should take your job seriously & try to be good role models!! Parents should NOT tolerate this abusive behavior on any level!! These guys should be removed permanently so that no other kids suffer!!!! Another school took a chance and hired this coach!! I hope and pray that no other kids are mistreated or abused!!

Well CHS has dropped the Jarsity football program and the coach Owens has lied to them in their face. gave up! This would not be happing if Coach and yes Caoch Reed was still coaching. So much for the seniors getting scouts to look at them the school has degraded the boys to JV. This is all BULL ****

Let's be truthful, I don't think seniors who we getting blown out by 50 points a game were really expecting scouts to be looking at them. Just sayin'

Well thats what happens when you have such a losing team like Cerritos. And NO im not talking shyt its just THE TRUTH. I've hread for years about people saying why dont they just take away football from CHS. And i know this because i played football in the Suburban League all 4 years i gradeuated c/o 2011..When my team played CHS we just let our J.V. team play and we would still win by 40 or 50 points. I mean seriously in the past 8 years or so CHS has only won like 5 games.. Honestly Cerritos best football record ever was 3-7.. --> Thats 3 wins and 7 losses! However It really does suck for the players who wanna play but like everyone is saying i dont think they will miss losing by an average of 58 points a game.. # Good Luck to Cerritos this Season..
