Cerritos High Schools Well Represented on All-CIF Basketball Teams

Student-athletes from Gahr, Cerritos and Valley Christian High Schools place basketball players on the All-CIF teams.

Basketball is thriving at the local high schools, as Gahr, Cerritos and Valley Christian High Schools have players that earned a spot on one of the All-CIF teams, the CIF-Southern Section office announced.

Leading the elite group is Gahr High. The Gladiators boy’s team, which won the CIF 2A title, boasts Player of the Year Davon Potts and Coach of the Year Ricky Roper. Joining them on the 2A team is senior Javonte Sales. After finishing second in the San Gabriel Valley League, Gahr defeated Mayfair to capture the CIF crown.

Gahr senior Symone Brown was chosen to represent the girl’s All-CIF 3AA team. The Gladiator girls lost to eventual 3AA champion, Serra, in the second round.

In Division 3A, Cerritos senior Aaron Wright was named to the All-CIF boy’s team. The Dons, who finished second in the Suburban League, were defeated by eventual Division 3A champion Harvard/Westlake in the quarterfinals.

Valley Christian, which traditionally fields a strong girl’s team, was represented on the All-CIF 4A team by Kari Korver. The Crusaders junior also won the CIF Hoops Skills contest during the CIF Finals weekend. Korver led her team to an Olympic League title and a CIF berth. Valley Christian lost to eventual champion Oaks Christian in the Division 4A semifinals.
