Gahr High Graduates Selected In Major League Baseball Draft

Pitchers Jacob Faria and Chris Devenski were both drafted in the early rounds of the MLB draft.

Gahr High School right-handed pitcher Jacob Faria was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 10th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft.

The 330th player selected overall, the 6-foot-5, 175-pound Faria was 2-0 with a 2.22 earned-run average in 16 games pitched for the Gladiators.

Gahr graduate Chris Devenski, a junior right-hander at Cal State Fullerton, was also selected in the draft.  Devenski went to the Chicago White Sox in the 25th round.

The 6-3, 200-pound Devenski was 2-0 with a 4.98 ERA and two saves in 15 games for the Titans.  He spent the previous two seasons pitching and playing shortstop at Golden West College.

Devenski was a three-year letterman at Gahr.  As a senior, he hit .357 and had a 1.77 ERA to earn first-team all-league honors.
