Whitney Represents at CIF Track & Field Finals

Senior Paley Mao breaks the school record in the triple jump while sophomore Michaela Platt ties for seventh in the high jump Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College.

Whitney High School was well represented at the CIF-Southern Section Division 4 Track & Field Finals Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College with a couple of outstanding performances by its athletes.

Senior Paley Mao broke the school record in the boys triple jump with a leap of 41 feet, 11.5 inches to finish in fourth place overall, bettering his prelim mark by 5½ inches. Mao, a four-year letterman and two-time CIF Prelims qualifier, broke the school mark earlier this season and again in the finals.

Mao was the Academy League champion in the triple jump and also runner-up in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 10 inches this season.

Sophomore Michaela Platt also turned in a fine performance, finishing tied for seventh in the girls high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 9 inches, just one inch off her prelim mark.

Platt was a first-time high jumper this season but was the Academy League champion in the high jump and established the school record this year with a jump of 5 feet, 3 inches. She also was league champion in the long jump with a personal best and school record of 16 feet, 5 inches.
