Cerritos Parks Will Stage Family Entertainment Summer Nights

On Mondays through Fridays starting next week, the City's Recreation Services Division will be providing free family movies and concerts at various parks this summer.

The Family Entertainment Showcase will begin Monday, July 9, with the showing of the popular Disney classic “The Little Mermaid” at Liberty Park, beginning at 8:15 p.m.

"Monday Night at the Movies" is one of five special events planned each Monday through Friday throughout the summer by the City of Cerritos Recreation Services Division. All activities for the Family Entertainment Showcase are free, including movies, children's entertainment and a variety of concerts through September 14.

Following Monday Night at the Movies will be Tuesday Family Nights, Wednesday Little Kids' Big Show, Thursday Concerts Under the Stars and Friday Concerts in the Plaza.

For the enjoyment of everyone and pursuant to the Cerritos Municipal Ordinance 9.48.030(p), dogs, cats or pets are not allowed in the park during special events and concerts. And under CMO 9.49.020, smoking is prohibited within the boundaries of all City of Cerritos public park facilities.

Monday Night at the Movies
Family movies will be presented at Liberty Park on Monday nights at 8:15 p.m. through August 27. Please arrive early and bring a blanket to sit on. Snack foods will be available for a nominal fee. All movies are rated G unless noted otherwise.

       July 23, "Rio" (PG)

       July 30, "Aliens in the Attic" (PG)

       August 6, "Kung Fu Panda 2" (PG)

Tuesday Family Nights
Entertainment and activities for the whole family at Friendship, Frontier, Sunshine and Westgate Parks will be featured every Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. through August 28. Each program will last approximately 45 minutes and will have a pre-show craft or activity. Please arrive early and bring a blanket for seating. Snacks will be available for a nominal fee. Please note that there are no restroom facilities at Friendship Park and Sunshine Park.

       July 10, John Abrams Animal Magic at Frontier Park

       July 17, Rodney Howard Native American Dance at Sunshine Park

       July 24, Michael the Juggler at Friendship Park

       July 31, Wonders of Wildlife Animal Show at Westgate Park

       August 7, A.B. Lion Dance Troupe at Frontier Park

       August 14, Sunshine Storyteller at Sunshine Park

       August 21, Jeff the Great Magic Show at Friendship Park

       August 28, Franklin Haynes Marionettes at Westgate Park

Wednesday Little Kids' Big Show
There's fun for the entire family in the Liberty Park Amphitheater with entertainment and activities at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. Bring a picnic dinner and enjoy the performance. Early arrival is suggested. The amphitheater gates will open at 6 p.m. No chairs of any kind are allowed inside the amphitheater; please bring a blanket for seating. All shows are approximately 45 minutes in length and will have a pre-show craft or activity. Snacks will be available for a nominal fee.

       July 11, Abbit the Average (Comedy/Magic/Juggling)

       July 18, Island Inspirations (Polynesian Dance)

       July 25, Wildlife Company (Animal Show)

       August 1, One World Rhythm (Musical Adventure)

Thursday Concerts Under the Stars
The Heritage Park Island Stage will be the hottest ticket in town this summer as exciting musical groups perform on Thursdays at 7 p.m. Relax with family and friends on a blanket while enjoying a picnic dinner. The 90-minute shows are outside on the lawn and it does get chilly, so bring a jacket. Snacks will be available for a nominal fee.

Enjoy a Friday evening at the Liberty Park plaza as musical groups perform on Fridays at 6:30 p.m. Relax with family and friends on a blanket or enjoy a picnic dinner. The 90-minute shows are outside and it can get chilly, so bring a jacket.
