Military Fly Over Planned in Lakewood Sunday to Honor Fallen Navy SEAL

In memory of Lt. Commander Jonas Kelsall -- the son of Lakewood Chamber President John Kelsall -- who was killed in Afghanistan on Aug. 6, 2011 during an attack by Taliban insurgents.

A pair of U.S. Navy F-18 fighter jets will cross over the skies above in nearby Lakewood and Bellflower on Sunday in honor of fallen Navy SEAL Lt. Commander Jonas Kelsall -- the son of a local Chamber of Commerce president - . 

The Aug. 19 fly over will take place between 9:15 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. during the Lakewood Chamber's Summer Stampede Car Show and Salute to Vets event at Mayfair Park.

Kelsall along with 29 other SEALs were carrying out a mission on Aug. 6, 2011 when their Chinook helicopter was shot down by Taliban insurgents. The chopper crashed killing all 30 SEALs in addition to eight Afghans.

The Shreveport, Lousiana native is the son of John Kelsall, president and CEO of The Greater Lakewood Chamber of Commerce since 2005.
