Cerritos Raises Its Voice in Song to Help the Philippines

The city will sponsor a fundraiser concert at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts that will include a comedy, song and dance troupe, a sports star and young local performers.

The city of Cerritos will be supporting disaster aid to the Philippines by presenting a  fundraising performance by the Society of Seven.

Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the American Red Cross. The concert is scheduled at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m. on Dec. 19.

“The people of the Philippines are enduring great hardships due to Typhoon Haiyan,” said Cerritos Mayor Bruce W. Barrows. “Our hearts go out to those who have lost loved ones and their homes. This concert offers our community a way to come together to support the millions of people who are in need of help.

The Society of Seven was named one of the best acts in Las Vegas, according to event organizers.  The variety troupe is known for its trademark performances, which merge popular hits and Broadway show tunes in a flashy Las Vegas setting, organizers said.

Filipino R&B and Soul singer Lhey Bella and Filipino Folk and Pop singer Nonoy Zuniga will join the troupe on stage, officials said.

Philippine Basketball Association Hall of Famer and Pepperdine University Hall of Famer Ricardo Brown will also sign autographs and join fans for photos in the lobby during the event.

Cerritos-based Crooks & Castles is scheduled to sell typhoon-relief T-shirts in the lobby.

Tickets are $150, $100, $75, and $50 and 80 percent of the ticket cost is tax deductible, officials said.

The lobby will open at 6 p.m. Early guests will enjoy scheduled performances by the Ross Middle School Choir and the Whitney High School Club Kaibigan Dance Troupe in the Sierra Room. Seating for the pre-concert event is limited.
