Garage Sale Saturday: 33 Vendors All in One Spot in Artesia

Local Soroptimists to host first garage sale fundraiser in 14 years.

They say one man’s junk is another man’s treasure. Well then get ready for a massive treasure chest bursting with goods galore.

The Soroptimist International of Artesia-Cerritos will be hosting a huge this Saturday, Aug. 27 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 11603 183rd St. in Artesia.

The sale will consists of good quality items collected from 33 Soroptimists' members as well as other pieces donated from their friends and family.

“I’ve received things from my own adult children and other friends have brought over bags of things too,” said Pat Law, club member and garage sale organizer.

Law said the neighborhood sale will feature a variety of items sure to please local treasure hunters.

“I know for sure we’ll have some children's clothes, car seats for babies, a member is also donating a treadmill and table and chairs,” she said. “There will be lots of men’s and women’s clothes as well as toys, kitchenware and dishes.”

With so many donations coming in, Law said it will be a heavy task to organize and sort through all the goods.“We’ll be sorting and pricing everything Thursday afternoon and Friday, then we’ll move everything to the front yard of the home at 6 a.m. But the sale doesn't start until 7 a.m.  – please no early birds.”

And while the club hopes to sell most of the items during the 7-hour sale, anything that is leftover will be donated to a disabled veteran's association, Law said.

Earnings Will Help Fund Soroptimists' Efforts

The money earned from the garage sale will go into the Club's general account, which helps the club function in terms of paying for meeting spaces, rental items used during events they hosts, office supplies, and other general business items, Law said.

Throughout the year, the Soroptimists help raise money for local organizations such as Su Casa and the Community Family Guidance Center. The club also provides two scholarships to the Teen Parent program at .

Law said the organization is happy to collect items from members of the community who would like to donate to the sale. Those interested in donating should contact Pat Law at (562) 537-9117.
