Not always immigrants. Someone hit means ran. Had a suspended license so they ran like a coward!Read More Love that some gardeners who couldn't speak English saw what happened and took down his license and he was arrested! May he rot in jail! If it hadn't been for the gardeners, this guy would be on the loose hurting others! Don't be too quick to judge.

Sorry, I could've sworn I saw "hispanic" stated, but perhaps it was a different articleRead More (or was edited out). Regardless, police officers are supposedly "trained" to identify people and should be able to tell (roughly) the age of a person without being way off, like 20 years off.

Diane & Michael, I am sorry for your loss.

Natasha -> I believe you saw the surname and assumed he was Hispanic [which is a common mistakeRead More to make], but in the original article in the Los Alamitos Patch, it does state he is a white male. Regardless, it did state he looked as if he was in his 40s but doesn't state he WAS 40, so they were only off anywhere from 11 up to 20 years [not EXACTLY 20 years] & yes, not a lot of people look their age -> there are some people in their 20s who look like they should be in their 40s and vice versa.. Michael & Diane -> I'm sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family..

Deceiving headline. It was the perps that beat Stowe that were negligent. Dodgers were only 25%Read More neglient but they have to pay all because they are the only ones that can pay. Lawyers typically get 50%. I guess Stow will have to accept less medical care.

It truly is a generally accepted fact. I have got a reason, from the bible and I think it isRead More 'concrete' enough. When a man and woman get married, they become one flesh. There is a unity between them. But, it is the man who is the head of the family. Some may think that this was a cultural notion that snuck into the Bible, but quoting from it: "For man does not originate from woman, but woman from man; for indeed man was not created for the woman’s sake, but woman for the man’s sake. " (1 Cor. 11:8-10). This headship is not about having the upper hand nor is it to mean that a woman has no rights or is a second class citizen. The husband is still commanded to love the wife. The headship issue is an issue of order, not of who is better or more important. But what happens when there is a shift of power in the family? Say the man loss a job and the woman becomes the bread winner. The man becomes less important or worthless. The woman is empowered, Like a "King" who commands her subject. This is exactly the case with Infante. Charito became so bossy that she started calling Infante humiliating names such as stupid, dumb and idiot. Sure she is a nurse but she lacks the psychological thinking of a nurse. Ignoring all the needs of a spouse such as emotional, physical and sexual. Infante endured humiliation for years. Charito humiliated Infante in front of family and friends. Saying statements such as " I should have return you to your family." To a man, that is the most humiliating thing you can say. That is probably why Infante had done what he did! Enough is enough! So to all the men who are head of the families, do not lose that status. Work hard to maintain that status. Head of the Family!

I appreciate your comment Jeremiah and I don't think I could've said it better myself, so I won't beRead More redundant. Except to repeat only one thing-- This is why Mr Melhman: "the age limit is based on the medical risk profile that would endanger both the employee and the public he is tasked with serving. The likelihood of sudden debilitating circumstances increases with age and these jobs have a stress level which can precipitate it." I'm still of working age yet from day to day I have bizarre health issues pop up. I run abt 3-5 miles per day, 5-6 days a week. I'm in excellent health. I'm also clever and a bright individual. Yet I've begun having pains in places, and I'm also getting forgetful. My eyesight is decreasing. I get stressed easier than I used to. Because this is our natural human aging process. we age. we just do. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now, in reading this article, I didn't read, nor did I realize we were discussing being let go at a certain age. I thought we were talking about applying for the job, where can age limit is set due to medical and statistical averages. So I agree with you, I do not think a person should be let go the day they turn 62. Most others do also, that;s why we are offered pensions at particular ages for incentive. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Lastly, your point using vote vs age limits is like comparing dogs to elephants, and completely irrelevant. We're talking about a person's capability to perform a certain type of job.

**** And I bet SouthernBelle knows something many women and men have forgotten - it's a whole lotRead More more fun acting out the roles when men act like men and women act like women and we all play the game and enjoy life as equal but thankfully different! **** Any good man who values his life knows women are superior to men and don't argue with them because even if you win, you lose!! :-) **** hahahahahahahahahaha!!! Yep, exactly how I feel. There are many many careers out there to choose from. Maybe a girl's passion is to put on 100 lbs of equipment and run up stairs to fight a fire and carry out a 250 lb man- but I'm guessing more aren't than are interested in that. But I'll tell you what, if my daddy's house catches fire and some gal runs up his stairs she best be able to carry him down because HIS life depends on it. And if she can't, then her taking a job she's unable to perform is just wrong.
southernbelle July 12, 2014 at 04:01 pm
one more thing--Mr Melhman, Not sure how long you've been in the area or if you are familiar with LARead More county hiring for Police and fire. But over the past 10 yrs they have had to lower their physical ability testing, as well as their hiring requirements because they had to account for women's physical abilities, and not enough men or women were passing the orals due to prior drug use (even trying it once counts), criminal records (DUI's fall in this), etc. This is also why the quality is lower than it used to be. We haven't seen nothing yet! It's abt to get a whole lot worse because no one wants police officer jobs anymore. so sad how we treat them!

How fast was the train going? I wish they would make a commercial making the public (foot trafficRead More and autos) aware of how difficult it is to stop a heavy train...I think it takes a couple of miles...even a lumbering freight. I have travelled on amtrak across America and presumably when all are tucked in at night they pick up speed to make up time to keep to schedules (especially on the east coast). It's a wonder there haven't been more horrific accidents. My heart goes out to her family and friends.

The guy was living in a garage...has nothing. You are going to tell me he was legal? He is aRead More smoker yet has no money. He smells gas and lights a cigarette anyway. What an idiot. Tatiana June 25, 2014 at 10:00 am
Had she served her sentence, this would have never happened, but upon being released she could haveRead More done this to someone else. Society keeps dealing with the symptoms of life, but not the causes. We need to take a proactive approach. When she was a child in school, I can only imagine the problems she exhibited in class. I can only imagine the agony she caused others. But what we do as a society is we let these people pass on to the next grade and on and on until they drop out or end up in jail. The parents are never held accountable. They can do whatever they want while not paying taxes and collecting benefits. I've seen this all too often. When the monster is fed, it will grow. It will grow until it takes all of us down with it. But it is such a taboo in society to ever blame the parents. You'll see mom's having 7 children in a motel and pregnant with another one on the way, with a father addicted to drugs. You'll see 15 in a one bedroom apartment, or you'll see 8 sharing one room, while 4 share the other. From this what do we expect as a society? To top it off, these types of people will get super angry if one tries to help them or show them a better way. Ignorance breeds ignorance. Until that deep level of ignorance is really challenged and dealt with, there is no hope, but only the same broken record playing over and over again.

38 million people in California, 9.9 million people in LA County. So, LA County has 24% of theRead More population of California. And 24% of the cars stolen in the state are from the county. Silly story. They could rename it, "State of California has 100% of the stolen cars in the state"

Since LA County represents 26.1% of California's census (estimated as of 2013), it would appear thatRead More it is doing better than the rest of the state, if it is only experiencing 24.4% of car thefts. This article appears to be a non-issue….

that's funny I just read an article on 10 top cities to have your car stolen from. and 9 were inRead More northern cali,1 was in Washington state. there was no cities listed for any southern cali location that recorded above average car thefts. so how can LA county be home to 25% of stolen car totals for the state??

This is exactly why I don't help women anymore. There have been several times in my life, when I'veRead More helped a woman who should never have been in a violent relationship with a thug in the first place. Killing the guy would put us on his level. When man gets to the level of God then I'd be okay withRead More killing. At least killing that what man has created. Outside of that our judicial system would be playing God. I agree with having the guy work off his debt via servetude towards the family most affected by his acts. He should have to build a system of demand upon his life by labor and service. How to execute such is the biggest question to ask.
mOmO123 June 16, 2014 at 06:25 am
A bullet to the head would be a lot easier and much more cost efficient. Oh thats right our judicialRead More system would rather house, feed, and provide health care for the next 20 years to this animal before they do anything with his sentencing.

Well the good news is, the more people who apply, the larger the applicant supply, and the lower theRead More costs (and their salaries) to the taxpayers. This is why racism and sexism in the workplace is a myth. Employers don't want to eliminate a sector of the applicant pool. And, no company/corporation is going to risk lawsuits for discrimination. There are plenty of watchdogs, lawyers, and bimbo HR women keeping a bean counting eye on who is hired and hiring metrics. If women/minorities truly earned less than white males, why would any company hire white males?
