"Tonight, remember those who gave their life on duty"

With those words, the Cerritos Sheriff’s Station began its five-mile leg of the 339-mile LASD Memorial Torch Relay run Friday night.

More than 50 sheriff's deputies, soldiers and people from the community came together on bikes and on foot to complete their 5-mile leg of the 35th Annual Los Angeles Sheriff's Department's Memorial Torch Relay run Friday night from the Cerritos to the Lakewood stations. The three-day relay run began at 9 a.m. Friday at the Sherman Block Sheriff’s Headquarters Building in Monterey Park. The Cerritos Sheriffs took the flameless white torch from the Norwalk Sheriffs about 10:20 p.m. and completed their zigzag route through Cerritos and Artesia to the Lakewood Sheriff's Station in about 45 minutes. Sheriff's Memorial Torch Relay Honors Fallen Heroes

The three-day, 339-mile relay will begin at 9 a.m. Friday and arrive at the Cerritos Sheriff's Station at about 9:50 p.m. for the five-mile leg to Lakewood.

The 35th Annual Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department’s Memorial Torch Relay run will be rolling through Cerritos Friday night at approximately 9:50 p.m. for a five-mile leg from the Cerritos Sheriff’s Station to the Lakewood Sheriff's Station. The three-day Memorial Torch run will begin at 9 a.m. at the Sherman Block Sheriff’s Headquarters Building in Monterey Park and travel to each sheriff’s station. The 59 legs of the run are each approximately 4 to 10 miles in length, totaling 339 miles overall. Arraignment Postponed for Sheriff's Officer Charged with Sex Crimes

Former Cerritos Deputy Manuel Perallon will face a May 31 arraignment in LA Superior Court for alleged inappropriate conduct with an underage Deputy Explorer.

The arraignment of Manuel Enrique Perallon Jr., a 10-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department charged with sex-related crimes involving a minor, has been continued to May 31, according to Elizabeth Diaz Martinez, public information officer for the Los Angeles Superior Court. Perallon, 36, who oversaw the Explorer program at the Cerritos Sheriff's Station, was arrested April 25 on one felony count of oral copulation of a person under 18 and one misdemeanor count of child molesting involving a 16-year-old girl enrolled in the Explorers program. He was released on $70,000 bond, and if convicted he could face up to four years in state prison. The crimes allegedly occurred in 2011 between April 29 and May 1, according to the …

Cerritos Weekly Crime Recap: April 30 to May 6

With the warm weather upon us, residents are reminded not to leave doors and windows open when they leave their home.

Editor's Note: The information below comes from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Cerritos Station's weekly crime summary. There were 33 Part I felony investigations conducted by members of the Cerritos Sheriff’s Station last week, down by two cases from the previous week. Commercial burglaries and vehicle thefts were up, but robberies, residential burglaries, and vehicle burglaries dropped. Field personnel responded to 274 calls for service, up from 269 the week before. The 2012 weekly average in calls for service is 263.  ROBBERIES There were no robberies reported last week. Vehicle Overturns on Shoemaker Avenue Freeway Offramp in Cerritos

The accident, which left a woman with minor injuries, happened just before noon on Thursday, May 10.

A female motorist suffered minor injuries today when her car overturned on the Shoemaker Avenue offramp from the eastbound Artesia (91) Freeway in Cerritos, according to the California Highway Patrol. The accident occurred just before noon on Thursday, May 10, the CHP reported.  According to reports from the scene, the car struck the offramp railing, flipped over and came to rest near some bushes. The woman, who was able to exit the vehicle on her own, suffered minor injuries and was treated by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics, according to the CHP. Vehicle Burglaries On the Rise in Cerritos

There have been 33 vehicle break-ins reported in the city over the past two weeks, according to the Cerritos Sheriff's Station.

A spate of vehicle burglaries in the city of Cerritos in recent weeks prompted a reminder from the Cerritos Sheriff’s Station for motorists to be smart when it comes to leaving items of value in their vehicles. “We've had a slight increase in vehicle burglaries during the last two weeks,” said sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Deedrick. “Most of the vehicle burglaries occur when valuables are left out in plain view.” During the week of April 23 to April 29, there were 19 vehicle break-ins recorded, according to the city’s weekly crime recap. From April 30 to May 6, another 14 vehicle burglary reports were taken, including three break-ins near Valley Christian High School in the 18100 block of Dumont Avenue, and three more cases in the LA Fitness parking …

Part I felony crimes logged by the Cerritos Sheriff’s Station rose from 23 to 35 last week. Residential burglaries, commercial burglaries, and vehicle burglaries were up. Fatal Accident Ties Up 605 Freeway

Truck veers off freeway into a tree, killing one person and injuring a second.

A Chevy pickup carrying two construction workers veered off the southbound 605 Freeway on Sunday evening, hitting a tree and catching fire, killing one person and critically injuring another, officials said. The accident occurred about 6 p.m. near the Katella/Willow off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol. One of the truck's occupants was pronounced dead at the scene; the other was taken to Long Beach Memorial Hospital, according to Capt. Marc Stone of the Orange County Fire Authority. Both had to be cut out of the truck. A SigAlert was issued a few minutes later and hazmat crews were called to investigate a lead vault labeled radioactive, Stone said. However, the container was later deemed safe, Stone said.

Law Enforcement to Step Up Drunk Driving Patrols for Cinco de Mayo Weekend

Cinco de Mayo revelers are reminded not to drink and drive as law enforcement agencies countywide deploy extra patrol units this weekend.

With Cinco de Mayo falling on a Saturday this year, along with the highly-anticipated Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto boxing match, Los Angeles County police agencies will be deploying saturation patrols throughout the county for any post-fiesta drivers. SWAT Team Searches Hawaiian Gardens Home for Domestic Violence Suspect

Deputies were searching for a domestic violence suspect Wednesday morning, but no arrest were made. The SWAT search put Hawaiian Elementary School on temporary lockdown.

A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department SWAT team searched a home in Hawaiian Gardens today, looking for a domestic violence suspect who apparently got away.
